I photograph with projection in mind and am careful to stay aware of the movement and light that occupy space. Matting and framing my images for exhibition makes the photos seem uncomfortably static and lifeless. After producing At the Edge of Wilderness, my first encounter with the multi-media installation world, and inspired by Nicole Dextras' and Pae White's 3-D works, I decided to explore the realm of installation. I am moving away from traditional 2-D presentations of photographic work toward 3-D arrangements, incorporating found objects with my semi-abstract photographs of urban and industrial deterioration.

These works were presented at the Galiano Art Gallery, the Glass Onion Gallery and the Cityscape Community Art Space of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council in 2002. The displays drew public interest and satisfied my desire of moving toward contextual installations.

A fourth piece entitled Photo Album is an assemblage of found metallic objects and a series of small photographs mounted on an old, rusty cot spring. The photographs, details and textures of neglected and decaying objects, were taken in old and current industrial areas of BC, such as in abandoned mines of the Kootenays, and in shipyards and factories of Vancouver. The metallic objects are found on the ground during my photography outings in Vancouver and surrounding areas. Everyone can come across these mundane objects in any industrial or urban street. The folding-cot spring was found beside a garbage bin on 8th Avenue and Main Street.

This work was presented at Artropolis in the CBC Studios of Vancouver in May 2003. It was part of the Residue curated show.

59 double sided photos are displayed over the entire piece. The ideal display for this piece is to hang it from the ceiling, so the viewers can walk around the installation and discover the different angles, thus experiencing various impressions.

If the exhibition space does not allow this display, the piece can also be presented against a wall. The shadows created by the spotlights add new dimension to the piece, which otherwise does not exist if the installation hangs away from the wall.
